Minerva May School is a small, specialist independent school with just 34 students, catering for children and young people aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and associated learning differences. We are seeking to appoint a visionary and experienced leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher for Teaching, Learning and Inclusion. This role combines whole-school leadership of teaching and learning with the strategic responsibilities of the SENDCo. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher and wider team to lead inclusive practice across the school, ensuring high-quality, personalised provision for every student.
The Role
As Assistant Headteacher for Teaching, Learning and Inclusion, you will:
• Lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of teaching and learning across the school, ensuring it is inclusive, trauma-informed and ambitious for all learners.
• Act as the designated SENDCo (a linked Job Description is provided as part of this advert), overseeing all SEND processes including EHCP reviews, interventions, and compliance with statutory responsibilities.
• Coach and support teaching staff to improve classroom practice and outcomes for students with complex needs.
• Champion inclusive pedagogy and differentiation across the curriculum.
• Contribute to the wider leadership of the school as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
• Is a qualified teacher with significant experience in SEN/SEMH/ASC settings.
• Holds (or is working towards) the NASENCO qualification.
• Has a proven track record of improving teaching and learning and leading effective SEND provision.
• Is reflective, forward-thinking, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.
• Thrives in a small-school environment and is eager to help shape a growing and ambitious provision.
